Subscriber count isn't a perfect measure of a channel's normal reach. Many subscribers may be inactive, and successful channels frequently attract large numbers of non-subscribers.

But channel size gives you useful context that raw YouTube view counts don't provide.

you could investigate:

Which relatively small creators are getting unusually large audiences on this topic right now?

You can also reverse the criteria.

Search for older videos with millions of views.

Now you may be looking for evergreen subjects with proven long-term demand.

Another research query could focus on recent long-form content:

  • Published within 30 days
  • 20 minutes or longer
  • 50,000 views or more

That could reveal subjects where viewers are demonstrating willingness to invest substantial time.

The filters don't merely reduce your results.

They allow you to ask different questions of the data.

Look for YouTube Outliers, Not Just Winners

The most useful video in your research isn't necessarily the biggest video.

It's often the video that shouldn't have performed as well as it did.
